David Duvshani (B. 1991) is an artist based in Tel-Aviv. Through paintings and drawings his works delves deeply into the political and cultural narratives of Judaism and of the historical land of Israel. A descendant of a Hasidic family that emigrated to Hebron in 1820 for religious reasons, independent of political constructs, grounded instead in a shared regional destiny unbound by borders he explores themes of belonging, identity, and conflict with a critical yet empathetic eye. Frequently melding the historical with the imaginative, employing satire as a lens to unravel their nuances and interweaving a dynamic fusion of influences that reflects a multiplicity of perspectives, spanning art history, political caricatures, war photography, religious iconography and literature with a personal contemporary vision, aiming to illuminate the manifold narratives that define and arise from this region.
Duvshani’s works were shown in numerous exhibitions in Israel (Raw-Art Gallery, Tel-Aviv, Almacen Gallery, Tel-Aviv, Mishkan Museum of Art, Ein Harod, Nahum Gutman Museum, Tel-Aviv,) and internationally (White Night, Paris, FOURFold Gallery, London, ViaFarini, Milan). In 2018 his artist book, “Crusades”, was published in France and shown at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris. He recently published his first graphic novel “Bad Butcher” at Tangier-Press.
